Credit card payment bonus

If your credit card is applied and issued abroad, how much the cash back and rewards you will earn when you used the card at home. This is a very general question.   Normally if the POS support Visa/Master, it will report the correct consume category. Your CSP/Prestige credit card payment is supposed to be returned Travel/Dining double rebates and points bonus only if you consumed at the correspondent places. 

On my credit card transaction records, there listed how much points earned under each consumption of different sorts at home. Such as: Uber taxi, China south airplane ticket and dining, each record with the double rewards.  。

However, Discover card is not necessarily being returned with the rewards. Maybe it’s because the cooperation with union pay has not covered completely enough. As said above, to discriminate the bonus category is very much dependent on POS device information. In many cases, after card swiped, the information showed there is not exact the correct category, just showed as “UnionPay Merchant”. Naturally there are not correspondent bonus category.   

In my card statement, the descriptor name sometimes shows exactly the merchant name but in some case, it only shows “UnionPay Merchant Beijing CHN”, it’s not been recognized.

If you purchased in places you are not very often used, you’d better set a Travel Notification ahead of time, which enable the issuing bank being notified about your travel plane to avoid declined by the risk control procedure. To set the notification, it is very easy. Just access the Customer Center or Account Management page in the online bank, then find the section of Credit Card Service.

For Amex: It is quite convenient for card holder, you can just swipe the card without having to set any information.

For Chase: You can set in the first time before you go somewhere, and it’s applied for next time.

For Discover: You can download its app and set on your phone and the app will notify you which places’ POS can support your card.
