Wechat on Apple

Around my living circle, three quarters in my friends and colleagues use iphone. While 100% of us use Wechat and Alipay. We have not bought an app by Wechat or Alipay on iphone app store ever. That is because iphone app does not support the two above payment processing methods. But according to the news that Tencent company announced on Aug.29^th, Wechat has been able to be accessed on iphone App Store. Users in Mainland China can purchase or subscribe App product or services by Wechat.   

Apple choose to cooperate with Wechat and Alipay is a inevitably trend. Mobile payment bring excellent shopping experiences, which can add revenue for Apple. After all, Apple is centered on hardware equipment and software service business. It should think toward bigger ecology instead of payment. That’s why it cooperate with Wechat and Alipay.

After the cooperation with Wechat, Apple will take a further step lowering the threshold of purchasing on App Store. Chinese users are believed to bring along more revenue for Apple.

For what’s it worth, user can not only purchase using the added bank card by Alipay on App Store, they also are able to use “HuaBei” for consuming first before payment.

The user experience in the past on App Store is not satisfied enough, especially in payment procedure.  I remember every time I failed on checkout which is really frustrating. Either Alipay or Wechat will enable Apple to improve the payment procedure.

For Apple, gaining new pay-users cost much more than maintaining old users. In addition to improve user experience, gaining new users and increasing re-purchase rate are all contribute to Apple revenue rise.  Benefit from Chinese mobile network industry  hot, China has been the very first market for Apple. Under such background, co-existence is more beneficial for Apple.
